We've Upgraded!
Based on our continuing research into the behaviors that drive innovation, we now have a highly robust and statistically-validated tool that we call the Stauffer Iterative Thinking Assessment (SITA). While it is based on the same concepts as this Self-Evaluation Quiz, we can now define these characteristics with much greater accuracy and detail...and provide even more powerful personal insights.
The Clockwise© Thinking Quiz introduced below is still available. So give it a try. Then, if you'd like to learn more about how you, your team and your organization can develop greater mental agility, enhance communication, reduce conflict and boost your innovation capacity, we would be delighted to arrange a demonstration.

Clockwise© Thinking Self-Evaluation Quiz
First, a brief explanation:
The patterns we use to think are largely invisible to us. We normally notice them no more than we notice the air that we breath. Like the proverbial "breath of fresh air", this quiz and the book on which it's based are designed to make those patterns discernable.
Unlike other psychological profiles that seek to determine one's fundamental personality, this quiz is designed to reveal our choices. Its premise is that the countless decisions we've made throughout our lives have created habits or "patterns" that we follow unconsciously, and that these patterns can be broadly categorized as either "Clockwise" or "Counterclockwise". While these patterns have become deeply ingrained habits for most of us, it should be possible to change our habits. So your results from this quiz may change over time—especially if you want them to.
Clockwise® Thinking* is the pattern, research shows, that tiny babies use to first learn about the world. It is the pattern followed by modern Scientific Method, Creative Problem Solving and applied creativity. It is a pattern that leads to fresh insights, discovery, adaptability and innovation.
Counter Clockwise® Thinking is the dominant pattern used in traditional education and most organizations. It's a pattern that emphasizes knowledge—what we already believe to be true. So it reinforces expertise and competence, but may also tend to lock us into the status quo.
In reality, all of us use both patterns, depending on the circumstances. Both patterns are rational, but Clockwise® Thinking leads to the discovery of creative and inventive solutions, while Counterclockwise thinking promotes stability and predictability. This quiz will give you a snapshot of where you are now so, if you choose to, you can begin to change those patterns, The question is not whether or not you are innovative (We all have that ability.) but rather when and how, so you can be more deliberate about applying those personal capabilities.
By taking this quiz, you are assisting in the research into this model. (Thank you!) Please interpret your results as a helpful indicator, not a benchmark.
Again, thank you for your participation.
